Possible Causes
High household water pressure, Long unsupported plumbing runs, Fast-closing valve positions, Lack of water hammer arrestor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: High pressure can damage plumbing. Consider using a pressure gauge.
- Step 1 – Measure pressure: Attach a gauge to a nearby faucet. If pressure exceeds 80 psi, install or service a pressure reducing valve on the main line.
- Step 2 – Secure pipes: Add pipe clamps or supports near the softener and along long runs to reduce movement.
- Step 3 – Install hammer arrestor: Install a water hammer arrestor near the softener or on problem branches.
- Step 4 – Check valve operation: Ensure the softener’s valve is not slamming due to misalignment or damaged rotor; service the rotor & seal if necessary.
