Possible Causes

Motor receiving power but rotor jammed, Seized rotor & seal, Overloaded motor due to valve obstruction, Failing motor windings

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit immediately if the motor hums continuously to prevent overheating.

  • Step 1 – Attempt manual rotation: With power off, try to rotate the cam/rotor by hand. If it is seized, remove the rotor & seal and inspect for damage or debris.
  • Step 2 – Clear obstruction: Clean the valve cavity and rotor face. Remove any foreign material.
  • Step 3 – Test motor free-run: With the rotor removed, briefly power the motor (following GE test procedures). If it still only hums, replace the drive motor.
  • Step 4 – Reassemble and test: Install a new rotor & seal kit if the old one was damaged. Run a manual regeneration to confirm smooth operation.

Warning: Do not leave a humming motor energized; it can overheat and fail.
