Possible Causes

Worn or broken cam gear teeth, Loose drive motor mounting, Debris in rotor/valve, Motor failing under load

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before touching moving parts.

  • Step 1 – Identify noise stage: Start a manual regeneration and note at which step the noise occurs (backwash, brine draw, rinse).
  • Step 2 – Inspect drive assembly: Remove the control cover and observe the drive motor and cam gear while running. Look for wobbling, skipping, or grinding.
  • Step 3 – Check for debris: If the rotor is binding, remove the rotor & seal assembly and inspect the valve cavity for debris or resin beads.
  • Step 4 – Tighten mounts: Ensure the motor and gear housing screws are tight and the assembly is not vibrating against the cover.
  • Step 5 – Replace worn parts: Replace any cracked or stripped cam gears and a noisy or weak drive motor.

Note: Some clicking is normal, but loud grinding indicates damage.
