Possible Causes
Insufficient rinse time, High drain restriction, Incorrect valve position at end of cycle, Excessive brine concentration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If water is very salty, bypass the softener until corrected.
- Step 1 – Run extra rinse: Manually start a regeneration and allow it to complete, then run an additional rinse cycle if your GE model allows.
- Step 2 – Check drain flow: Ensure the drain line is not restricted and that strong flow occurs during rinse stages.
- Step 3 – Verify valve position: Inspect the rotor/cam alignment to ensure the valve returns fully to the SERVICE position at the end of regeneration.
- Step 4 – Adjust salt setting: Reduce the salt dose per regeneration if set excessively high, following GE guidelines.
- Step 5 – Service rotor & seal: If internal leakage between ports is suspected, replace the rotor & seal kit.
