Possible Causes

Clogged refill flow control, Stuck brine refill valve, Control board not energizing refill, Blocked brine line

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the inlet valve before disassembling the valve head.

  • Step 1 – Observe refill step: Start a manual regeneration and advance to the refill stage. Listen for water entering the brine tank. If silent, proceed.
  • Step 2 – Inspect refill flow control: Locate and remove the small refill flow control insert in the valve head. Clean any debris and ensure the orifice is open.
  • Step 3 – Check brine line: Inspect the brine tube for kinks, clogs, or air leaks. Ensure all connections are tight.
  • Step 4 – Test valve operation: With the unit in refill and power applied, carefully feel for vibration or movement at the brine valve area. If there is no sign of operation and other functions work, the control may not be energizing the valve.
  • Step 5 – Replace parts: Replace the GE refill flow control or GE brine valve assembly if they are blocked or stuck. If the control fails to energize the valve, replace the GE electronic control board.
