Possible Causes

Leaking brine valve seal, Clogged drain line preventing proper brine draw, Stuck refill valve, Cracked brine line or loose connection

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve. Be prepared for water spillage; protect nearby flooring.

  • Step 1 – Inspect drain line: Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, frozen, or blocked. The end of the hose should not be submerged in standing water.
  • Step 2 – Clean venturi: Remove and clean the venturi and nozzle assembly to restore proper suction during brine draw.
  • Step 3 – Check brine valve and float: Remove the brine well cover and inspect the safety float assembly. Make sure it moves freely and is not stuck in the up position. Clean any salt buildup.
  • Step 4 – Inspect brine valve seals: Remove the brine valve from the valve head and inspect O‑rings and seals. Replace hardened or damaged seals.
  • Step 5 – Replace components: If the valve body is cracked or the float assembly is damaged, replace the GE brine valve assembly and GE brine safety float.
  • Final step: Manually bail out excess water from the brine tank, then run a regeneration and monitor the water level.
