Possible Causes
Brine tank actually low or empty, Salt bridge causing false level, Excessive water in brine tank diluting brine, Clogged venturi preventing proper brine draw
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Wear gloves when handling salt and brine. Unplug the unit if removing covers.
- Step 1 – Visually inspect salt level: Remove the brine tank lid and confirm there is at least several inches of salt above the water level.
- Step 2 – Break salt bridge: If there is a hard crust on top with hollow space underneath, break the bridge and remove any large chunks.
- Step 3 – Check water level: If the brine tank is nearly full of water, see the “Brine tank overfilling” symptom entry. Excess water can prevent proper brine concentration.
- Step 4 – Clean venturi: Remove and clean the venturi and nozzle assembly to ensure the unit can draw brine correctly.
- Step 5 – Add salt: Refill with the correct type of water softener salt. Do not overfill; leave several inches of space at the top.
- Step 6 – Force regeneration: Start a manual regeneration to restore softening capacity.
