Possible Causes

Stuck brine refill valve, Defective electronic control timing, Clogged refill flow control, Leaking brine valve seal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and close the inlet valve. Be prepared for some water spillage when opening lines.

  • Step 1 – Observe refill: Start a manual regeneration and advance to the brine refill step. Watch the brine tank. If no water enters, or water continues to flow past the normal time, there is a refill control issue.
  • Step 2 – Inspect refill flow control: Locate the small refill flow control insert in the valve head (often near the brine line connection). Remove and clean it to clear any debris.
  • Step 3 – Check brine valve operation: Remove the brine valve assembly and inspect the piston and seals. Replace hardened or torn O‑rings.
  • Step 4 – Verify control timing: If the valve hardware is clean and functional but the unit refills for too long or not at all, the electronic control may not be timing the refill correctly.
  • Step 5 – Replace parts: Replace the GE brine valve assembly or GE refill flow control as needed. If timing remains incorrect, replace the GE electronic control board.
  • Final step: After repair, run a full regeneration and confirm that the brine tank fills to the correct level (typically a few inches above the grid plate).
