Possible Causes
Control board failure, Motor or cam fault, Flow sensor failure, Internal valve leak or jam
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener and close the inlet valve before opening the valve head or working on wiring.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then restore. Observe if the message clears.
- Step 2 – Check for additional codes: Some GE models show a more specific error after entering service mode. Refer to the service manual for button combinations to access diagnostics.
- Step 3 – Basic checks: Verify the motor runs during a manual regeneration, the turbine registers flow, and the brine tank fills and empties correctly.
- Step 4 – Inspect for leaks or jams: Look for water leaking from the valve head or signs of a seized rotor and disc.
- Step 5 – Replace likely failed component: Based on which function is not working (motor, flow, brine draw), replace the corresponding GE valve motor, GE turbine assembly, GE venturi kit, or GE electronic control board.
- When to call a pro: If you cannot identify the failed subsystem or the unit repeatedly shows “Service” after part replacement, contact a GE‑authorized service provider.
