Possible Causes

Incorrect time or regeneration schedule, Flow sensor not counting usage, Control board clock fault, Unit left in vacation or bypass mode

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: No internal work is required for basic checks. Unplug the unit if removing covers.

  • Step 1 – Verify current time: Check that the time of day is set correctly and AM/PM is correct.
  • Step 2 – Check regeneration mode: Confirm the softener is set to demand‑initiated regeneration (if applicable) and that the capacity and hardness are set properly.
  • Step 3 – Confirm flow metering: Run water in the house and verify that the display shows flow and usage accumulating. If not, troubleshoot the turbine sensor.
  • Step 4 – Check vacation/bypass mode: Ensure the unit is not in a vacation or hold mode and that the bypass valve is in service.
  • Step 5 – Test manual regeneration: Start a manual regeneration. If it works manually but never starts automatically, the control board clock or logic is likely faulty. Replace the GE electronic control board.
