How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the inlet valve. Mop up standing water promptly to prevent damage.
- Step 1 – Inspect brine tank walls and bottom: Look for visible cracks or splits. If the tank is cracked, it must be replaced.
- Step 2 – Check brine line connections: Tighten the nut at the brine valve and at the safety float. Replace ferrules if they are deformed.
- Step 3 – Inspect safety float: Remove the brine well cover and check the float assembly for cracks or loose seals. Replace the GE brine safety float assembly if leaking.
- Step 4 – Address overfill cause: If the tank overflowed, see the “Brine tank overfilling” entry to correct the underlying issue.
- Step 5 – Replace brine tank: If the tank is structurally damaged, install a new GE brine tank compatible with your model.
