Possible Causes
Valve motor stalled against jammed rotor, Motor receiving constant power, Loose transformer mounting, Failing motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before touching the motor or internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Identify source: Place your hand lightly on the transformer and motor to determine which is humming.
- Step 2 – Check motor stall: If the motor hums but does not turn, remove the motor and see if the rotor shaft turns freely by hand. If not, the rotor is jammed.
- Step 3 – Clear jam: Inspect the rotor and disc for debris or damage. Clean or replace the GE rotor and disc assembly.
- Step 4 – Replace motor: If the rotor turns freely but the motor still hums and will not rotate under load, replace the GE valve motor.
- Step 5 – Check transformer: If the transformer hums loudly, ensure it is securely mounted and not vibrating against the wall. Replace the GE power transformer if excessively noisy.
