Possible Causes
Exhausted or fouled ion exchange resin, Incorrect raw water hardness setting, Bypass valve left open, Blending valve set too high
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No internal live parts need to be touched for basic checks. Close water supply if opening hydraulic parts.
- Check bypass: Ensure the manual or automatic bypass valve is in the correct position for soft water service, not in bypass.
- Verify blending setting: On units with a blending valve, check the hardness setpoint. Reduce the blending of hard water if the outlet hardness is too high.
- Confirm hardness parameters: Compare the raw water hardness set in the controller with a current hardness test of the incoming water. Correct the setting if necessary.
- Test resin performance: Perform a manual regeneration and then test the outlet water hardness. If hardness remains high, the resin may be exhausted or fouled (e.g. by iron) and the resin cartridge or resin bed should be replaced by a technician.
