Possible Causes

Stuck brine safety float, Faulty float switch, Salt bridging preventing proper water level, Wiring issue to float sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power. Do not work inside the brine tank with energized components.

  • Inspect brine well: Remove the brine tank lid. Locate the brine well (vertical tube) containing the safety float assembly. Check if the float is stuck in the up position due to salt or debris.
  • Free the float: Gently move the float up and down. If it is jammed, remove the float assembly, rinse it with warm water, and clear any salt or sludge buildup.
  • Check salt condition: Look for salt bridging or mushing. Break up hardened salt with a plastic rod and remove any mushy salt at the bottom. Refill with fresh, clean softener salt.
  • Test float switch: If accessible, disconnect the float switch wiring and test continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. Replace the float assembly if the switch does not change state.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the float, restore power, and initiate a manual regeneration. If E05 persists, inspect the wiring back to the control board or consult a technician for sensor circuit diagnosis.
