Possible Causes
High iron content exceeding softener design, Resin fouled with iron, No regular resin cleaning, Incorrect regeneration frequency
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Iron-laden water can stain fixtures; protect surfaces during testing and cleaning.
- Test iron level: Use an iron test kit to measure dissolved iron in the raw water. If above Hansgrohe's recommended limit for softeners, consider a dedicated iron filter.
- Clean resin: Use an iron-removal resin cleaner compatible with Hansgrohe systems. Follow product instructions for dosing into the brine tank and running a regeneration.
- Increase regeneration frequency: Reduce the capacity setting so the softener regenerates more often, preventing heavy iron buildup.
- Resin replacement: If iron fouling is severe and cleaning is ineffective, replace the resin bed.
