Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate electrical power. Water may discharge when hoses are removed; have towels and a bucket ready.
- Inspect drain hose routing: Follow the hose from the softener to the waste connection. Remove any kinks, sharp bends, or compression points. Ensure the hose runs downhill or with minimal rise.
- Check drain height: The end of the drain hose should not be higher than the manufacturer’s specified maximum (typically around the top of the softener). If it is tied up too high, lower it to reduce backpressure.
- Clear air gap/standpipe: If the hose discharges into an air gap fitting or standpipe, remove any visible debris or limescale. Flush with hot water if safe for the plumbing.
- Clean drain port: Turn off water, relieve pressure by opening a nearby tap, then disconnect the drain hose at the Harvey control valve. Inspect the outlet for salt sludge or debris and gently clear it with a small brush or plastic pick. Do not scratch sealing surfaces.
- Test regeneration: Reconnect the hose securely, restore power and water, then start a manual regeneration. Watch the drain hose to confirm a strong, steady flow during backwash and brine rinse.
If E02 persists with a clear drain line and good flow, the internal valve motor or position sensor may be faulty and require professional service.
