Harvey
Over-Regeneration / Programming Issue
Harvey water softener regenerates too frequently, using excessive salt and water
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Hardness set too high, Capacity set too low, Incorrect meter setting (time-clock vs metered), Flow meter misreading
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No plumbing work is required; changes are made via the control panel.
- Test hardness: Measure actual incoming hardness with a test kit.
- Adjust settings: Enter the Harvey programming menu and set hardness and capacity according to the test result and manual.
- Check regeneration mode: Ensure the unit is set to metered (demand) mode if applicable, not to an unnecessarily frequent time-clock schedule.
- Monitor usage: After adjustments, monitor regeneration frequency and salt usage over several weeks.
If regenerations remain abnormally frequent despite correct settings, the flow meter may be over-counting and should be inspected.
