Possible Causes
Depleted backup battery on control board, Failed backup capacitor, Aging control board components
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the control panel. Observe anti-static precautions when handling the board.
- Locate backup device: On some Hellenbrand boards, a coin-cell battery or small capacitor maintains the clock. Identify this component visually.
- Replace battery (if applicable): If a coin-cell is present, note its type (e.g., CR2032), remove it, and install a new one with correct polarity.
- Inspect for leakage: Check around the battery or capacitor for corrosion or leakage. If present, the board may need replacement.
- Reprogram time: Restore power and set the correct time and regeneration schedule. Monitor after a brief power interruption to confirm the clock is retained.
- Board replacement: If the backup function still fails after battery replacement, the board’s charging or memory circuit is likely defective and the entire control board should be replaced.
