Possible Causes

Failed reed switch on cam, Misaligned magnet on cam or rotor, Broken sensor wiring, Defective sensor input on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and place the valve in bypass. Relieve pressure before opening the control head.

  • Locate the reed switch: On many Hellenbrand valves, a small reed switch is mounted near the cam or rotor with a magnet passing by to signal position. Identify this assembly and its wiring.
  • Check alignment: Ensure the magnet on the cam or rotor passes directly in front of the reed switch at the correct points. If the bracket is bent or loose, realign and tighten it.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the reed switch wires to the control board. Confirm the connector is fully seated and the wires are not broken or pinched.
  • Test the reed switch: With a multimeter set to continuity, disconnect the switch and place probes across it. Move a magnet past the switch; the meter should show continuity when the magnet is close. If not, replace the reed switch assembly.
  • Board diagnosis: If the reed switch tests good and is aligned, but Err6 remains, the sensor input on the control board may be defective. Replace the control board.
