Display shows “Err8” and the brine tank does not refill properly after regeneration.

Safety first: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Depressurize by opening a nearby faucet.

• Inspect brine line: Follow the brine line from the control valve to the brine tank. Straighten any kinks and ensure the line is not pinched behind the tank.
• Clean refill flow control: Remove the brine line connection at the valve and locate the small refill flow control orifice. Rinse it under running water and clear any debris or iron buildup with a soft brush or toothpick (do not enlarge the hole).
• Check refill valve movement: On some Hellenbrand heads, the refill is controlled by an internal piston. Disassemble the brine valve section per the manual and inspect O-rings and piston for sticking or scoring. Clean and lubricate with silicone grease or replace the brine valve assembly.
• Test refill function: Reassemble, restore power, and initiate a manual regeneration. Observe the brine tank during the refill step to confirm water is entering at the expected rate.
• Board/solenoid diagnosis: If your model uses an external refill solenoid, test for voltage at the solenoid during refill. If no voltage is present, suspect the control board. If voltage is present but no flow, replace the solenoid valve.
