Possible Causes

Exhausted or fouled Judo ion-exchange resin, Incorrect hardness or capacity programming, Bypass valve partially open, Brine concentration too low due to salt bridging

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not open pressurized components. Use test kits to verify hardness.

  • Test hardness: Use a hardness test kit to measure raw water (before softener) and treated water (after softener). If both are similar, the softener is not exchanging ions effectively.
  • Check bypass: Verify the Judo bypass valve is fully in Service position. A partially open bypass will dilute softened water with hard water.
  • Inspect salt level and bridging: Look inside the brine tank. If a hard crust (salt bridge) has formed above empty space, gently break it with a broom handle, being careful not to damage the tank. Refill with appropriate Judo-approved salt.
  • Run manual regeneration: After correcting salt issues, start a manual regeneration and retest hardness. If water is still hard, the Judo ion-exchange resin may be exhausted or fouled and require professional cleaning or replacement.
  • Verify programming: Confirm hardness and capacity settings in the control menu match your water analysis and resin volume.
