Possible Causes
Kinked or blocked drain hose, Drain line run too long or too high, Frozen drain line, Clogged drain fitting at valve head
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and close the water supply. Place the softener in bypass to relieve pressure.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Inspect drain hose:
- Follow the entire length of the drain hose from the valve head to the drain.
- Straighten any kinks and ensure there are no sharp bends.
- Shorten the hose if it exceeds manufacturer length or rises higher than recommended.
- 2. Check for clogs:
- Disconnect the drain hose at the valve head and check for debris or scale in the fitting.
- Flush the hose with water to clear any blockage.
- 3. Freeze check:
- In cold climates, ensure the drain line is not frozen or exposed to freezing temperatures.
- 4. Test operation:
- Reconnect the drain hose, restore water and power, and start a manual regeneration.
- If the error returns and flow is still restricted, inspect and replace the drain line flow control or valve head as needed.
