Softener uses very little or no salt; salt level never seems to drop

Safety first: Unplug the unit and shut off water before disassembly. Place the softener in bypass.

Step-by-step checks:

• 1. Observe brine level:
  • Mark the brine level in the tank with tape.
  • Run a manual regeneration and check if the level drops during brine draw and rises during refill.
• 2. Clean venturi/nozzle:
  • Remove and clean the venturi, nozzle, and screens as described in earlier entries.
• 3. Inspect brine float and line:
  • Ensure the float moves freely and the brine line is not kinked or blocked.
• 4. Brine valve function:
  • Check the brine valve plunger and spring for free movement.
  • Replace the brine valve assembly if it is stuck or damaged.
