Possible Causes
Use of low‑quality granular salt, Excessive fine salt particles, Very low water usage leading to stagnant brine, Overfilling brine tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Wear gloves when handling salt sludge.
- Remove mush: Scoop out the mushy salt from the bottom of the brine tank and dispose of it. You may need to remove most of the salt to access the bottom.
- Rinse tank: After removing salt, flush the brine tank with clean water and siphon out the dirty water until clear.
- Refill with correct salt: Use high‑quality tablet or block salt approved by Kinetico UK. Avoid fine granular salt.
- Monitor performance: After cleaning, run a regeneration and test water hardness to confirm proper operation.
Warning: Do not use rock salt or de‑icing salt; impurities can foul the resin and brine system.
