Electronic Kinetico water softener shows E01 on the display and will not initiate a regeneration cycle automatically.

This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the softener from the mains supply (unplug or switch off fused spur) before removing any covers. Turn off the water supply and depressurise by opening a nearby tap.
- Power reset: Disconnect power for 5 minutes, then reconnect. If E01 clears and does not return, it may have been a transient fault.
- Check low‑voltage connections: Remove the top cover of the Kinetico electronic control head. Inspect the low‑voltage harness from the display/keypad module to the main control PCB. Reseat all plugs firmly and check for bent pins or corrosion.
- Inspect for moisture: Look for signs of water ingress around the control head, especially near the brine well and bypass manifold. Dry any moisture with a lint‑free cloth and allow the unit to air dry before re‑energising.
- Visual PCB inspection: With power still isolated, inspect the main control PCB for burn marks, swollen capacitors, or cracked solder joints. Do not touch components unnecessarily.
- Test operation: Restore power and attempt to start a manual regeneration from the keypad. If E01 reappears immediately, the control PCB or display module is likely defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
Warning: Do not work on live electronics. If you are not confident with electrical diagnostics, contact an authorised Kinetico UK service engineer.
