Possible Causes
Blocked drain line, Kinked drain hose, Blocked drain flow restrictor, Obstructed drain port in control valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Place the softener in bypass and relieve pressure by opening a tap. Disconnect power.
- Inspect drain hose: Follow the drain hose from the softener to the discharge point. Straighten any kinks and ensure the hose is not elevated above the recommended height.
- Check for blockages: Disconnect the drain hose at the softener. Inspect the hose and the drain port for scale, debris, or biofilm. Flush with clean water.
- Clean flow restrictor: Many Kinetico valves use a small drain flow restrictor or orifice. Remove and soak in vinegar or a descaling solution to dissolve mineral build‑up, then rinse thoroughly.
- Test backwash: Reconnect the hose, return the unit to service, and initiate a manual regeneration. Observe the drain flow; it should be strong and continuous during backwash and rinse stages.
- If E08 returns: Internal valve passages may be restricted or the control board may be misinterpreting flow; professional service is recommended.
Warning: Ensure the drain terminates in an air‑gapped connection to prevent backflow contamination.
