Regeneration Frequency / Metering Error
Kinetico electronic softener shows E09 and salt consumption is abnormally high.

Possible Causes
Incorrect hardness setting on control, Flow meter over‑registering usage, Internal leak between soft and hard water ports, Incorrect capacity programming for resin volume
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal electrical work is required for basic checks, but isolate power if removing covers.
- Verify hardness setting: Compare the programmed hardness with the actual mains hardness (from Kinetico test kit or water report). Adjust to the correct value following the user manual.
- Check for internal bypass leak: With no water being used, observe the meter reading or flow indication. Any movement suggests a leak or running appliance. Isolate appliances one by one to identify hidden usage.
- Inspect flow meter: If the meter shows flow when there is none, the turbine may be sticking or the sensor may be noisy. Clean or replace the turbine flow meter assembly.
- Recalculate capacity: Ensure the programmed capacity matches the resin volume of your specific Kinetico model. Incorrect capacity will cause too‑frequent regenerations.
Warning: Do not arbitrarily reduce regeneration frequency below recommended levels; this can lead to hard water and resin damage.
