Possible Causes
Cracked brine tank, Loose brine well grommet, Damaged brine line connection, Overfilled brine tank causing overflow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Bypass the softener and, if necessary, scoop excess water from the brine tank to prevent overflow damage.
- Inspect brine tank: Examine the sides and base of the brine tank for cracks or splits, especially if the unit has been exposed to freezing temperatures.
- Check brine well seal: Ensure the brine well tube is seated correctly and that the rubber grommet or seal is intact. Reseat or replace if leaking.
- Inspect brine line fittings: Tighten compression nuts or push‑fit connectors on the brine line. Replace any cracked fittings.
- Correct salt level: Ensure the salt level is within the recommended range and that the overflow fitting (if present) is correctly piped to a drain.
Warning: A cracked brine tank generally must be replaced; do not rely on sealants for a permanent repair.
