Possible Causes
Salt sensor out of position, Sensor coated with sludge or iron, Faulty salt probe, Control board misinterpreting sensor signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener before adjusting the sensor.
- Verify sensor mounting: Ensure the Lindsay salt sensor is mounted at the correct height and angle per the manual. If it has slipped down, it may always read low.
- Clean around sensor: Remove any mushy salt or sludge around the sensor. Rinse the sensor tip with clean water and dry.
- Reset alarm: Clear the low salt alarm in the menu and monitor. If it returns immediately, the sensor may be defective.
- Bypass sensor (temporary): Some models allow disabling the salt sensor in programming. This can be used temporarily until a replacement sensor is installed.
