Possible Causes
Defective Lindsay position switch or encoder, Misaligned cam causing incorrect position feedback, Broken position sensor wiring, Contaminated sensor from salt or moisture
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the control head cover.
- Visual inspection: Remove the top cover of the Lindsay control valve. Locate the position switch or encoder disk attached to the cam shaft. Check for broken plastic tabs, loose mounting screws, or corrosion.
- Clean sensor area: If you see salt dust or moisture, gently clean with a dry cloth. Do not use water. Ensure the encoder disk or magnet is free of debris.
- Check alignment: The position sensor must align with the cam notches or magnet. If the cam has slipped, loosen the set screw, realign to the home position per Lindsay service marks, and retighten.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the small harness from the sensor to the control board. Reseat the connector and look for broken or pinched wires.
- Test operation: Restore power and initiate a manual regeneration. Watch if the valve now moves through positions without triggering E3.
If E3 returns and alignment/wiring are correct, replace the Lindsay position switch/encoder assembly.
