Possible Causes
Iron-fouled resin releasing trapped iron, Insufficient backwash flow, Clogged distributor or laterals, High iron content without pre-treatment
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Run water to a drain or outside hose until clear before using indoors.
- Increase backwash time: Adjust the backwash duration in the controller to Lindsay’s maximum recommended for high iron.
- Use resin cleaner: Add an approved resin cleaner to the brine tank and run several regenerations to remove iron fouling.
- Inspect distributor: If discoloration persists, inspect the bottom distributor and laterals for clogging and clean or replace as needed.
- Consider iron filter: For very high iron, install a dedicated iron filter ahead of the Lindsay softener.
