How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Place the softener in bypass before disassembling any components. Depressurize by opening a faucet.
Step-by-step checks:
- 1. Compare pressure in bypass vs service: Put the Marlo bypass in bypass mode and check pressure/flow at a faucet. If flow improves significantly, the restriction is within the softener.
- 2. Clean inlet screen: Remove and clean the inlet screen or pre-filter on the Marlo valve. Sediment can severely restrict flow.
- 3. Check valves: Ensure all inlet/outlet valves and the bypass are fully open in service mode.
- 4. Evaluate resin fouling: If the unit is old or exposed to iron/sediment, the resin bed may be compacted. A thorough backwash or resin replacement may be required.
When to replace parts: Replace the Marlo inlet screen or pre-filter cartridge if clogged. If resin is fouled, replace the Marlo cation resin media. For chronic undersizing, upgrade to a larger Marlo softener valve and tank.
