Possible Causes

High inlet pressure, Rapid closing of Marlo valve ports, Lack of water hammer arrestors, Undersized or loose plumbing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Use caution when adjusting pressure regulators or modifying plumbing. Shut off water before cutting pipes.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Measure pressure: Use a gauge to check static and dynamic pressure. If above Marlo's recommended maximum, adjust or install a pressure reducing valve.
  • 2. Secure plumbing: Ensure pipes near the softener are properly strapped and supported to reduce movement.
  • 3. Install hammer arrestors: Add water hammer arrestors near quick-closing valves or at the softener inlet/outlet if hammer persists.
  • 4. Check valve programming: On some advanced Marlo controllers, you may be able to adjust cycle transition times. Consult the manual.

When to replace parts: If internal valve components are damaged from repeated hammer, replace the Marlo control valve assembly as needed.
