Possible Causes

Failed NTC temperature sensor on valve, Sensor wiring damaged or disconnected, Softener installed on hot feed instead of cold, Ambient temperature exceeding design limits

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before inspecting sensors or wiring.

  • Verify installation: Confirm the Monarch softener is installed on the cold water main only. Connection to a hot feed can trigger over-temperature errors and damage components.
  • Check sensor location: Locate the temperature sensor on the valve body or inlet. Ensure it is firmly seated and not exposed to external heat sources (e.g., boiler flue, direct sunlight).
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor cable to the PCB and check for cuts, abrasions, or loose connectors.
  • Allow to cool: If the unit is in a very hot cupboard, improve ventilation and allow the area to cool before resetting the error.
  • Replace sensor if faulty: If resistance readings are out of specification (per Monarch data), replace the NTC sensor with the correct part.
