Monarch
Over-Regeneration / Oversized Hardness Setting
Softener regenerates too often, wasting salt and water
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Hardness set too high, Incorrect resin volume or capacity programmed, Flow meter over-reading, Internal leak causing constant flow
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No special safety concerns for programming changes, but do not open pressurised components.
- Measure actual hardness: Use a test kit on the incoming water and compare to the programmed value. Reduce the setting if it is significantly higher than measured.
- Check for phantom flow: With all taps closed, look at the flow indicator. If it shows flow, investigate for leaks or running toilets.
- Review capacity settings: Ensure the resin volume and capacity are set according to the Monarch model specification, not guessed.
- Monitor usage: Compare the softener's recorded daily usage with your household's expected consumption. If readings are unrealistic, the flow meter may need replacement.
