Possible Causes
Clogged brine refill flow control, Kinked brine line, Stuck rotor at refill position, Low inlet water pressure, Defective control board timing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the softener and place it in bypass before opening the valve or brine system.
- Check for salt bridge: Use a broom handle to gently push down through the salt. If you hit a hollow space, break up the salt bridge so water can reach the bottom of the tank.
- Inspect brine refill flow control: Remove the refill flow control orifice and clean any debris. Ensure it is not blocked.
- Check brine line: Verify the brine line is not kinked or pinched and that all fittings are tight.
- Observe refill stage: Run a manual regeneration and watch the brine tank during the refill step. If no water enters, inspect the rotor and seal kit for damage at the refill port and replace if necessary.
- Verify water pressure: Ensure household water pressure is within Morton’s specified range. Very low pressure can prevent proper refill.
