Display shows “Err 02” and the unit stops mid-regeneration or will not advance through cycles.

Safety first: Disconnect power before touching internal wiring. Turn the bypass valve to bypass if you will be disassembling the valve.

• Access the valve head: Remove the Morton softener top cover to expose the valve rotor and cam and the small position switch (often a micro-switch or Hall sensor) that detects cam position.
• Inspect cam and actuator: Rotate the cam by hand (power off). Confirm that the cam’s actuator tab or magnet passes the switch correctly. If the tab is broken or worn, the switch will not detect position and Err 02 can appear. Replace the rotor and cam assembly if damaged.
• Check the position switch: Inspect the switch for physical damage, corrosion, or loose mounting. Ensure the wiring harness is fully seated at both the switch and control board. Clean any corrosion with electrical contact cleaner.
• Test continuity: With a multimeter (power off), test the switch for proper open/closed operation as you manually move the cam through its positions. If the switch does not change state, replace the rotor position switch.
• Control board diagnosis: If the switch tests good and the cam is intact, but Err 02 persists, the control board’s input circuit may be defective. Inspect for burnt traces or components. Replacement of the electronic control board is usually required.
• Final test: Reassemble, restore power and water, and run a manual regeneration. Verify the unit advances through all cycles without displaying Err 02.
