Possible Causes
Clogged venturi nozzle and throat, Blocked brine line or air check valve, Leaking or hardened venturi gasket, Internal valve port blockage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass before disassembling the venturi or brine system. Have towels ready for water spillage.
- Clean the venturi assembly: Locate the venturi nozzle and throat on the valve body (usually under a cap with screws). Remove the cap, noting the order of parts and gaskets. Soak the nozzle, throat, and screens in warm water with a small amount of vinegar to dissolve iron and mineral buildup. Use a soft brush or toothpick to clear small passages—do not enlarge holes.
- Inspect venturi gasket and O-rings: Check the flat gasket and any O-rings for cracks, flattening, or distortion. A leaking gasket will prevent proper suction. Replace the venturi gasket kit if any seals are suspect.
- Check brine line and air check: Follow the brine line from the valve to the brine well in the salt tank. Ensure there are no kinks, pinches, or leaks. Remove and inspect the air check valve / brine pickup assembly at the bottom of the brine well for salt sludge or debris. Clean thoroughly and verify the check ball moves freely.
- Verify brine level: During brine draw, the water level in the brine tank should drop. After cleaning, run a manual regeneration and watch the brine level. If it still does not drop, recheck for air leaks at all brine line connections and ensure the venturi cap is tightened evenly.
- Valve body inspection: If suction is still absent, internal valve passages may be blocked or the rotor seal may be damaged. Inspect the valve rotor and seal kit and replace if worn or scored.
