H0
Morton
Hardness Setting / Capacity Programming Fault
Display shows “H0” or similar hardness-related code; water feels hard even after recent regeneration.

Possible Causes
Incorrect hardness programmed, Incorrect salt efficiency setting, Flow meter miscalibration, Control board programming error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal electrical work is required for this procedure; keep the unit plugged in.
- Verify raw water hardness: Use a hardness test kit or obtain hardness data from your water supplier. Morton softeners require an accurate grains-per-gallon (gpg) value.
- Reprogram hardness: Enter the programming mode on the Morton control panel and set the hardness to the correct value, adjusting for iron if present (typically add 5 gpg for each 1 ppm of iron, per Morton guidelines).
- Check capacity and salt setting: Ensure the capacity and salt dosage settings match your model and household usage. Incorrect settings can cause premature hardness breakthrough.
- Confirm flow meter operation: Run water and verify that the display shows flow or that gallons remaining decrease. If not, inspect the turbine flow meter as described in the Err 06 entry.
- Run a manual regeneration: After correcting settings, start a manual regen and test water hardness 24 hours later. If hardness remains high, further mechanical diagnosis (resin, brine system) is needed.
