Possible Causes

Salt level sensor misaligned or stuck, Sensor covered in salt crust, Incorrect salt level setting, Control board reminder logic error

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before handling any internal sensors or wiring.

  • Verify actual salt level: Open the brine tank and confirm that salt is at least 1/3 full. Break up any large salt bridges that may give a false impression of level.
  • Inspect salt level sensor (if equipped): If your Morton model uses a salt level sensor, remove it from the brine tank. Clean off salt buildup and ensure any floats move freely. Reinstall at the correct height per the manual.
  • Reset reminder: Some Morton units use a time-based reminder rather than a true sensor. Enter the programming menu and reset or disable the low-salt reminder according to the user manual.
  • Check wiring: Ensure the sensor wiring harness is fully connected and not corroded. Replace the salt level sensor if it remains inaccurate.
