Possible Causes
Broken lower distributor screen, Cracked riser tube, Overfilled resin tank, Excessive backwash flow rate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Depressurize the system and be prepared for resin cleanup.
- Flush plumbing: Remove aerators and flush faucets to clear resin beads from fixtures.
- Inspect resin tank internals: Remove the valve head and carefully pull out the riser tube and lower distributor. Check the bottom screen for cracks or holes.
- Check riser tube: Inspect the riser tube for splits or damage that could allow resin to bypass the screen.
- Remove excess resin: If the tank is overfilled, remove some resin to the manufacturer’s recommended level to prevent excessive pressure on the distributor.
- Replace damaged parts: Install a new lower distributor screen and/or riser tube as needed. Refill resin to proper level and reassemble.
- Verify backwash settings: Ensure the Morton softener is configured with the correct backwash flow control to avoid fluidizing the bed excessively.
