Possible Causes
Rotor not sealing in service position, Debris under rotor seal, Cracked valve body, Control board stuck in backwash command
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately place the softener in bypass to stop water waste. Unplug the unit before disassembly.
- Confirm drain flow: Check the drain line to verify continuous flow when the unit should be in service.
- Inspect rotor and seal kit: Remove the rotor and seal kit and look for debris, resin beads, or damage preventing a tight seal in the service position. Clean or replace as needed.
- Check valve body: Inspect the valve body for cracks or erosion around the drain port. Replace the valve body if damaged.
- Control board test: After mechanical repairs, restore power and observe whether the unit immediately energizes the motor into a backwash position. If the board repeatedly commands drain flow without reason, replace the electronic control board.
