Nobel
Salt Bridge / Salt Mushing
Brine tank has water but salt level does not drop over time
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Salt bridge forming above water level, Use of low‑quality rock salt, High humidity causing salt to cake, Infrequent salt usage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Wear gloves and eye protection when working in the brine tank.
- Check for bridge: Insert a broom handle straight down into the salt. If you hit a hard crust with empty space beneath, a salt bridge is present.
- Break the bridge: Gently push the handle through the crust in several places to collapse it. Avoid striking the sides or bottom of the tank too hard.
- Remove mush: If you find a thick layer of mushy, sludgy salt at the bottom, scoop it out with a plastic container and discard. Rinse the tank if heavily fouled and refill with fresh salt.
- Use proper salt: Switch to high‑purity evaporated salt pellets recommended by Nobel to reduce bridging and mushing.
