Possible Causes
Inlet and outlet reversed, Bypass loop allowing hard water mixing, Outdoor hose bibs connected after softener unintentionally, Cross‑connection with untreated line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off main water and relieve pressure before altering plumbing. If unsure, hire a licensed plumber.
- Verify flow direction: Check the Nobel control valve markings for IN and OUT. Ensure the house supply enters the IN port and exits the OUT port.
- Check bypass arrangement: Confirm that any manual bypass valves are correctly oriented and not allowing mixing of hard and soft water.
- Test at multiple taps: Use hardness test strips at various fixtures to identify which lines are softened and which are not. This helps locate mis‑plumbed branches.
- Correct piping: Reconfigure piping so that all desired fixtures are supplied from the softener outlet, leaving only designated outside taps on hard water if desired.
