Possible Causes
Jammed piston or seals, Failed valve motor, Cam gear damage, Control board not advancing cycle
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately place the softener in bypass to stop water waste. Disconnect power before opening the control head.
- Attempt manual advance: With the cover removed, restore power and use the manual advance button to step through the regeneration stages. If the valve does not move or returns to the same position, the motor or cam may be faulty.
- Inspect for jams: Disconnect power and remove the motor and cam assembly if accessible. Check for broken teeth, foreign objects, or misalignment.
- Check piston and seals: If comfortable, remove the piston and seal pack from the valve body. Clean and inspect for swelling, tearing, or distortion. Replace with a Nobel piston and seal kit if damaged.
- Temporary operation: Leave the unit in bypass until repairs are completed to avoid wasting water and salt.
