Possible Causes

Incorrect meter setting in control, Damaged turbine magnet, Incorrect turbine orientation, Control board metering circuit failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before removing covers. Use bypass to isolate the softener from household plumbing.

  • 1. Verify programming: Enter the installer menu on the North Star control and confirm the correct meter size / turbine type is selected per the model label. Incorrect settings can trigger Err02.
  • 2. Inspect turbine magnet: Remove the turbine from the valve body. Check that the embedded magnet is intact and not cracked or missing. Replace the turbine if the magnet is damaged.
  • 3. Confirm orientation: Ensure the turbine is installed in the correct direction (arrow on housing aligned with water flow). An inverted turbine can cause no-flow detection.
  • 4. Test operation: Restore water and power, then run a faucet. Watch the display for flow indication (gallons or liters counting). If the display does not change, the metering circuit or sensor is faulty.
  • 5. Replace components: If reprogramming and turbine replacement do not clear Err02, replace the turbine/flow sensor assembly. Persistent failure may require a new electronic control board.
