Possible Causes
Clogged inlet screen, Fouled resin bed, Partially closed bypass valve, Plugged distributor tube or bottom screen
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off water and depressurize the system before removing any plumbing connections.
- 1. Check bypass: Ensure the bypass valve is fully in the Service position.
- 2. Inspect inlet screen: Remove and clean the inlet screen or filter at the valve inlet if your North Star model has one.
- 3. Bypass test: Place the unit in bypass. If house pressure returns to normal, the restriction is inside the softener.
- 4. Resin and distributor: If restriction persists in service mode, the resin bed may be fouled or the distributor tube screen plugged. This typically requires replacing the resin tank media and inspecting the distributor tube and bottom screen.
