North Star
No Brine Draw / No Regeneration
Softener does not use salt; salt level never goes down

Possible Causes
Clogged injector, Blocked brine line, Stuck brine valve, Salt bridge in brine tank
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and place it in bypass. Wear gloves when working with salt and brine.
- 1. Break salt bridge: Insert a broom handle straight down into the salt. If you hit a hard crust with empty space below, carefully break the bridge so salt falls to the bottom.
- 2. Clean injector and screen: Remove the injector cap on the valve. Take out the injector nozzle, throat, and screen. Soak in vinegar to dissolve mineral buildup, then rinse and reinstall.
- 3. Inspect brine line and float: Check the brine line for kinks or leaks. Remove the brine well cover and ensure the float and air check move freely and are not crusted with salt.
- 4. Run manual regeneration: Restore power and water, then start a manual regeneration. Watch the brine level during brine draw; it should slowly drop. If it does not, the injector assembly or brine valve assembly may need replacement.
