Possible Causes
Some fixtures plumbed before softener, Bypass valve partially open, Incorrect inlet/outlet connections, Mixing valve cross-connection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off water before altering plumbing. If unsure, consult a licensed plumber.
- 1. Map plumbing: Identify which fixtures receive hard water. Check if they are connected upstream of the softener.
- 2. Verify inlet/outlet: Confirm the softener inlet is connected to the main supply and the outlet to the house distribution, not reversed.
- 3. Check bypass: Ensure the bypass valve is fully in service and any additional bypass piping is closed.
- 4. Correct cross-connections: If mixing valves or loops are feeding hard water into softened lines, re-pipe as needed.
