Possible Causes
High water pressure, Rapid valve shifts causing water hammer, Loose plumbing near softener, Restricted drain line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: High water pressure can be dangerous. If unsure, contact a plumber.
- 1. Check water pressure: Use a gauge on a nearby faucet. If pressure exceeds 80 psi, install or service a pressure reducing valve.
- 2. Secure plumbing: Ensure pipes near the softener are firmly strapped to walls or supports to reduce vibration.
- 3. Inspect drain line: Make sure the drain hose is not restricted, kinked, or submerged in standing water, which can cause whistling or chattering.
- 4. Consider water hammer arrestor: If banging persists, install a water hammer arrestor on the softener supply line.
